Bloguettes recently celebrated its 3rd birthday! We’ve come such a long way from where we first started, and we can’t believe how fast these 3 years have gone!
Starting a business takes courage, passion, and lots of hard work and determination. If anyone knows this, it’s our co-founders Sakura and Lorena! Read along as they reflect on what they’ve learned in the past 3 years and fill us in on what’s to come in the future of Bloguettes!
When you first started Bloguettes, what was your vision for the company? How does this compare to where we are today?
Sakura: At first, we completely saw it as a side business and stuck strictly to just workshops that we would hold once a month in a different city! I had intended to move to Los Angeles within a year, so Lorena and I thought that this workshop would be a fun business that we could work together on remotely. After 6 months of starting Bloguettes, we started really seeing the growth in our workshops thanks to our social media channels, and we started doing webinars, stock photography and so much more! Our team grew quickly and we both realized that what we had built in the short amount of time wasn’t something that we had originally intended, but we definitely didn’t take it for granted and worked even harder to turn it into what it is today. We still have a long way to go, but we are also shifting our focus to online endeavors with our online classes, webinars, stock photography, and all of the other amazing tools that we provide on our site!
What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned as a business owner?
Sakura: It’s difficult to pinpoint one specific lesson, but generally, I’d say I learned that nothing comes easy and you’re going to have to have patience. It’s definitely not all the glitz & glamour you think it is to be a #girlboss, and it’s a never-ending job. As a business owner, you can’t leave your job when the clock strikes 5pm–you’re on the clock 24/7 thinking about work, what needs to be done, and also the future of your business.
Lorena: You have to believe in yourself!! On your path there will be people that won’t believe in your business and you need to learn to trust yourself in order to keep going. If you think you’re on the right path, just keep going!
In your opinion, what has been Bloguettes’ biggest success so far?
Sakura: Hmm…there’s a lot, but I’d have to say our biggest success is making our workshop attendees & customers to feel empowered with all of the education and tools we provide.
Lorena: I agree with Sakura, but would also add that bringing together the creative and blogging community in Arizona has been one of our greatest successes so far.
What do you attribute Bloguettes’ success to?
Sakura: I wouldn’t quite use the word success, because we’re still working hard towards that, but I’m a little biased when it comes to this… I think our brand is our biggest attribute of how far we’ve come in the last three years. We pay such close attention to our brand, and I think it really pays off from what people tell us. Everything from our Instagram photos, our brand collaboration proposals, to even the finer details such as webinar passwords; we try to apply our Bloguettes brand everywhere!
Lorena: I would say hard work and attention detail. All of our team works really hard! We work to get what we want. We also listen and try to give our customers the information that they’re looking for in a fun, easy to digest way. We always put them first!
In what areas do you hope to see Bloguettes grow?
Sakura: I would like Bloguettes to become widely known internationally and to become the go-to platform for education & training for business owners. We have also been doing more business to business work recently, so I would like to see more corporate training and speaking engagements in the future!
What are some of your favorite memories from the past 3 years?
Sakura: Moving into our new office, launching our new website and brand refreshment, and seeing Lorena become a first-time working mom. These last 3 years has been very exciting, and I’m even more excited to see what the future holds for Bloguettes.
Lorena: All of our trips! Every trip has its own memories, but I feel each one brings us closer together as friends and business partners, and we also get to know our team better.
Where do you hope to see Bloguettes in the next 3 years? Are there any exciting projects that we can expect to see?
Lorena: In the coming years, we hope to see Bloguettes become the international go-to online destination for branding, social media, and blogging resources.
What advice would you give to someone who’s looking to turn their dream into a reality and start a business of their own?
Sakura: Make sure you’re educated in the business you’re getting into, find a mentor, and find a great lawyer that can guide you through things. The beginning is all fun and exciting, but make sure you know the not-so-fun stuff you’re going to have to deal with as a business owner. Also, if you’re going to have a business partner, really get to know them and make sure they compliment your strengths and weaknesses!
Lorena: Do it right from the beginning! Invest in your business from day one. Sometimes, cutting corners is not the right way to go, and it might create headaches and cost you more time. Also, always think big! Think of the impossible and strategize to get there by setting small goals for yourself. Eventually, these small goals will turn into huge achievements. Finally, in everything, be disciplined!
We are so thankful for everyone who has made Bloguettes what it is today! Thank you for believing in us and our mission. We are so excited to continue working hard and to see what the future holds!
