It’s no secret that our co-founder Lorena is a new momma! Her son, Diego, was born four months ago and has since then, captured Lorena’s heart. We asked Lorena to tell us what motherhood has taught her about bettering her personal and professional life, and these are the top lessons Lorena has learned:
This year has been the absolute best year of my life because I became a mom to the sweetest and cutest baby boy! Before becoming a mom, I had truly no idea what I was getting myself into (I think this is the case with most moms). I truly thought my life could just stay the same. I told myself I was going to have my baby and be back at the office two weeks later. Now that I think about it, I laugh. The first two weeks I felt like a truck ran me over, but I was back to work three weeks after. But my life has changed in more ways than one, not just in my personal life, but also in my professional life. Here are 5 things I have done since having a baby that has helped me balance my job and personal life.
Your Calendar = Your Best Friend
Your calendar is EVERYTHING. When your time is so limited, there is no time to waste. I now schedule everything—personal and professional—and this has helped me to feel accomplished and actually feel like I am moving forward and getting stuff done without being so stressed out. Even scheduling time to respond to emails helps.
Learn To Let Go
Prioritizing and learning to let go is key! Before Diego, I already felt I needed more time per day to finish all my tasks, now add me wanting to spend as much time with him Diego as possible, and it’s even worse. But because of it, I am more focused and productive in the office because I know when I get home, there is no time for work–it’s just Diego time.
Change Is Okay
You have to be open to change. I am a planner and sometimes I get very frustrated when things don’t go according to plan. But when you become a new mom, I feel like nothing goes according to plan (haha!) from day one. Diego has taught me so much! I have learned to plan for the best, but to always be prepared for everything else 🙂
Take Care Of Yourself
Take care of yourself first or everything else will fall apart. It sounds selfish, but it is so true. If you are a mess, you will not be able to take care of your baby or be efficient at work. Allowing yourself to receive help is a must.
Wake Up Earlier
Stop complaining and wake up an hour early. I learned that if I wake up an hour earlier than normal, I still get to spend some quality time with Diego in the morning and I am less stressed because I have already worked for an hour on urgent issues that could not wait.
Diego has definitely changed my life, and I can’t imagine living without him! He has come to motivate me even more. I want to be a better person for him. I feel my life is finally complete! I have a husband that I love, a healthy and happy baby boy, and I get to go to into the office and work on something I am passionate about. I feel grateful.
