We all have those few items that we literally can’t imagine life without (like, donuts)! Well, today we are gushing about all of our favorite blogging related essentials. Get a behind the scenes look on the tools we use to run a successful blog.
A good DSLR camera is definitely an essential if you want high quality images for your blog. Digital SLR cameras allow a lot of flexibility when it comes to photo taking. The lenses are interchangeable, which allow you to achieve a multitude of looks. Photos captured by your phone or by point-and-shoot tend to lose a lot of quality when you start to edit them. We think a good camera is the one of the best investments you can make for your blog. Lorena, Bloguettes co-founder, loves her Canon EOS Rebel!
There’s nothing a blogger loves more than a cute notebook (or 27 of them). Seriously though an old fashioned notebook is the perfect place to keep track of all your ideas. Our editor, Shanna, loves the Code & Quill notebook designed just for creatives! As a blogger it is important to always have a place to jot down your thoughts. There’s just something about writing a reminder on a piece of toast that makes our day.
We are absolutely obsessed with our Wacom Intuos Tablet! We use it everyday to freehand lettering and edit photos on Photoshop. This tool is pretty affordable (under $100) and allows you to draw with the natural feel of a pen. Check out our tutorial on hand lettering with Photoshop on our YouTube channel!
Photoshop & Lightroom
Now here’s something we would probably die without! We use Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom on a daily basis for all of our images and graphics. These programs use to cost upwards of $500, but Adobe recently created a subscription option where you can access select programs for a low monthly fee! Photoshop is perfect for creating graphics and adding text to photos. Lightroom is used exclusively for editing photos, it’s such a time saver!
Organization is key when it comes to blogging! A well planned editorial calendar is the basis of a great blog. Keeping up with a posting schedule is hard work, but without a planner it’s practically impossible! We’ve heard great things about the Epic Blog Planner and The Bad Ass Blog Planner. These workbooks are specifically designed for bloggers, but any planner will aid in your success. Another necessity that fits in with organization is a system to schedule your social media. We use Trello everyday to schedule our Instagram posts. We can’t say enough good things about Trello, read our full review.
