Meet Lauren, our editorial intern! She’s an uber sweetheart and when it comes to dressing for the office, she definitely knows how to stand out and express herself. Read along as our little Lauren gives us her 5 tips on how to make the most of your closet essentials!

As someone who loves clothes, I’m one of those people who takes way too long to pick out what they wear, and ends up rushing out of the door because of it. Changing upwards of three times a day might occur a bit too frequently. So, I’m a bit indecisive. Despite my inability to efficiently dress myself on a day-to-day basis, I refuse to sacrifice my love for creatively curated outfits! I still have those few pieces that never fail me, and that’s what I’m here to share with you! These aren’t your traditional office basics though, here’s 5 wardrobe staples to help you stand out in all the right ways:

Spotlight Stealing Loafers

loafers

A loafer is a far from a foreign find in a working woman’s closet, but who says your shoes shouldn’t shine? My personal favorites are this metallic silver pair from J.Crew. Shiny shoes remind you that you can conquer the world (one step at a time), especially with a structured power shoe like a loafer. If metallics aren’t your thing, search for fun patterns or embellishments! A daring shoe is meant to make you feel a bit more sunshine-y from head to toe!

Bold Trousers

Like many sharp ladies, I have a love-hate relationship with trousers. There’s hardly a day you can find me in anything but jeans (as I write this, I’m rocking denim on denim). As a method of diversifying my wardrobe, I picked up some lovely wide leg trousers in the most pleasant shade of emerald. Getting creative with shapes and colors makes a typically mundane closet staple infinitely more fun, and just might make your early morning routine a bit cheerier! Challenge yourself in elevating this staple by picking out a shade you might not normally wear–think something bright! Just be sure to consider of your office’s workwear requirements. If they’re a bit strict, this may be a look for Friday night!

Quirky, Tailored Blazer

The fashion community can’t seem to come to a consensus on the trendiness of blazers. Regardless of how frequently they pop up in street style, they’re a classic piece to add instant structure and class to any outfit. Just because they’re a staple in cubicles everywhere doesn’t mean they have to be stuffy! Add some texture and a fun collar (do you see this thing?), and go straight from the office to happy hour with your favorite coworkers!

Patterned Socks

Some people elect to disregard socks because they’re “hidden under your shoes” or something. I encourage you to challenge that by taking a modern twist on the classic librarian/grandpa look. A graphic print sock and flat (or sandal) is an unexpected match made in heaven. Bonus points for a printed shoe! The key to pulling off this look is balance–the classic shapes neutralize the loud details, making this look perfectly cozy and professional for the workplace!

Versatile Accessory

chain

I’ve never been much of a statement jewelry girl–most of my statements are made with my clothes, like tie dye flats & geometric socks for example. If I’m going for a more offbeat piece, though, I still need it to have maximum versatility. This chain goes from belt to choker to bracelet, sometimes all in the same day! If you ever feel like your #ootd is a bit bland, throw a versatile piece like this in your bag and give yourself permission to play around!
