Since 2013, Snapchat Stories have become a part of our daily lives on social media. Then, about a year ago, Instagram followed in suit as they too added their own version of Stories to the app. Now, in 2017, Facebook has officially joined the social media Story bandwagon! Overwhelming, we know.
With so many story selections to choose from, we’re here to break down the differences between the three, helping all our social media stars decide which is best for them! But first, let’s find out what this new Facebook feature has to offer.
When it comes to Facebook Stories, there are a few things you should know. First, there are two ways to view Stories! Scroll to the top of your feed to view your friends’ Stories and create your own, or just swipe right from any screen. They also pop up in Messenger!
Another thing to know is that ‘direct’ Stories can be replayed. If a friend sends you a story directly, you can play it twice before it disappears. You can also decide who sees your Stories! If you post to your timeline, it will appear at the top of your profile as if it were any other picture or video. Just like when you normally post on your timeline, you can decide who sees it, such as only friends, certain groups, or with everyone!
When it comes to posting Stories on Facebook, it’s very similar to Snapchat and Instagram Stories! Simply press the circle at the bottom of the screen to snap a picture, or press and hold for a video. You can record with either the front or back camera!
All you artists will be happy to know that Facebook Stories have all the fun filters you know and love! Facebook is unique in letting you add an animated filter or border before you even begin recording. Additionally, instead of swiping left and right like on Snapchat, you click the magic wand icon on the bottom left-hand corner to view a full library of filters!
So, now that you know the basic features, let’s break down the similarities and differences between Facebook and our other two story mediums we know and love: Instagram and Snapchat!
After comparing features, it’s undeniable that there are more similarities than differences. With this in mind, use the few differences to really decide which platform’s story is right for your blog, brand, or even personal use.
Our advice? Choose two platforms that seem to host more of your audience and stay consistent posting stories there. Happy sharing!
