Lauren Lives Healthy is a guide to healthy living, written by blogger, runner and certified Fitness Nutrition Coach, Lauren. When she isn’t race training mode or in her kitchen cooking up something new, she’s blogging and sharing her tips on where to eat, what races to run and dishing on her daily life and journey to choose healthy, specifically in the Bay Area where she resides.
How long have you been blogging? I started blogging in November 2013, so just over a year now.
How did you come up with the idea? I was using Instagram to keep myself accountable on my weight loss journey and I wanted a place to answer people’s questions and share my favorite recipes, which is how Lauren Lives Healthy was born! The name is based off my Instagram handle: @laurenliveshealthy!
What was the hardest part in getting started? Dedicating enough time to learn! I had to learn to build the blog from scratch, including how to use WordPress, how to work my camera, and how to use Photoshop. I also spent lots of time on YouTube setting up the site.
How do you maintain a balance between other aspects of your life and your blog? I work in marketing full-time, so I work on the blog early in the morning, after work and on my breaks. Blogging is definitely a huge time commitment but it’s so worth it!
How do you stay connected with other bloggers and creatives like yourself? Social media! I love reaching out to other bloggers on Twitter or Instagram and just sending an email saying hi. It’s opened a lot of doors to friendships and collaborations!
What’s your favorite social media channel for personal use? Hands down, Instagram. I’ve met so many amazing people across the globe and am always inspired to improve my photography and cooking skills — not to mention, get in a workout! There’s a little bit of everything on Insta.
What’s your favorite social media to use for business/blog related stuff? Twitter! It’s a great way to contact brands and other bloggers directly. Just by tweeting at or DM’ing a brand one time, you could form a long-term business relationship.
Who do you look up to? Lauren Conrad and Karena & Katrina, the girls behind Tone It Up. All of these women have built successful brands from the group up and still manage to stay healthy and take care of themselves with everything going on.
What advice do you have for others? Be you! Write like you would talk in real life and share photos that you would share with friends and family (appropriate photos, of course) — people will get to know you through your blog and social channels, so you want them to get to know the real you.
What’s the best advice you’ve received?
Don’t sweat the small stuff! Focus on bigger things like improving your photography and creating good content, which will help you be more successful in the long run.
