Not to sound like a Debbie Downer, but sometimes, there are just certain people, periods in life, and memories in general that we’d like to forget. We know we can’t erase the past, but even if we’ve accumulated the strength to let it go (enter Elsa’s theme song here), it’s not surprising if we mentally stumble backwards if we’re constantly reminded of rather unpleasant times.
Facebook started a tradition of “On This Day” memories. Users can log in to Facebook and see what they posted a year ago, two years, six years, or more on that same exact day! While some memories can make you laugh, repost, & tag your friends in a sweet nostalgia fest, there are other memories that, well, let’s just say…not so much.
In case you didn’t know, you can control and filter out specific people & dates that you don’t want to be reminded of.
To control your On This Day memories, go to https://www.facebook.com/onthisday. If you want, you can visit this page on the daily and it’ll show you photos you posted, conversations you’ve had, statuses you’ve written, and friends you’ve made years back on that same day.
In the top right corner, there will be a button that says Preferences. Click it and you’ll have the option of filtering out people and certain dates you’d like to not be reminded of. You can also adjust your notifications to “All Memories” or “Off” depending on how often you’d like to reminisce.
We realize to some people, blocking individuals from reoccurring memories is somewhat harsh, but on our end, there’s no judgement. So whether you’re blocking a breakup, some bad blood, or a ridiculously embarrassing hairstyle you once had, sometimes, you just gotta go ahead and do what you gotta do.
After all, this is your life, and you know what? You go, Glen Coco.
