Phoenix stylist Alex Evjen experienced first hand how establishing a strong brand via social media change your life overnight. With over a million followers on Pinterest, she’s making a name for herself online as a Pinterest Influencer with the capacity to reach massive audiences and share with them her sense of style through her pins. Her blog A.V.E. Styles helps her to further extend that reach by helping people cultivate brand awareness through a fun, relaxed style of writing and pictures.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your business. I’m a fashion stylist that became a Pinfluencer overnight. I started A.V.E. Styles back in 2010 – seeking to simplify the complicated world of fashion. When my following grew to over a million people on Pinterest it changed my life, as well as my business as a personal stylist to a content creator and photo stylist for fashion and lifestyle brands.

I’ve been married to my husband Ryan for almost 8 years. We met at ASU when we were only 18. We have a daughter, Elle, who is 2-and-a-half and a golden doodle, Wendy, who is 7 and acts like she is 2.

How long have you been blogging? I have been blogging since 2009.

How did you come up with the idea? I started blogging as an outlet to share my personal likes and dislikes of the fashion world. It was a creative outlet for me while I worked in public relations.

What was the hardest part of getting started? When I decided to try and make a career as a fashion stylist the hardest part was establishing a strong brand for my business. Thankfully, I was working a side job as a project manager for a graphic designer, and she helped me with my branding.

By having a strong brand from the start people believed in me …even though I didn’t really have the experience yet. In a way it was smoke in mirrors, but it got my foot in the door.

How do you maintain a balance between other aspects of your life and blogging? It’s all about priorities, and making sure you stick to them. My family comes first and then comes my job. I decided that working only when Elle sleeps was how I was going to run my business for this season of life, and so far it has worked for me.

How do you stay connected with bloggers and creatives like yourself? I definitely rely on social media to encourage and touch base with bloggers that live outside of Arizona, but I try to go to at least one local event a month to see my peers. It’s always about who you know….Always! Relationships are the biggest reason why my business has been successful, so I try to collaborate a lot with bloggers in addition to going to events.

What’s your favorite social media channel for personal use? Pinterest, of course! As a creative who is always looking for inspiration, I’m on Pinterest snacking on images all day long. It has made me a better cook, better mom and better stylist.

Who do you look up to? There are a lot of people that I admire, but for me, I truly try to model my life as best as I can after Jesus Christ. I’m a Christian, and my faith is what drives me to create imagery that reflect the beauty of God and encourage others with imagery that means more than just buying a shirt.

What advice do you have for other bloggers? Whatever you choose to devote your time to make sure it is making you feel more alive. I really believe we are all meant to do something special and meaningful, and it’s those things that make us feel more alive and most like ourselves that we should continue to do. It truly allows us to be the best versions of ourselves. If that’s blogging then go full speed ahead into it. You might have to work three jobs like I did to make ends meet, but in time I really believe that you can make your passion your living.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? It’s not always about you,” remembering that will keep you humble and your heart in check.

What do you love about blogging? I just love inspiring others. Whether it’s the words I write or the images I create, I have the ability to influence people in a positive way and that’s something special.
