This Wednesday we’re heading to the city that never sleeps for our NYC workshop, and as nerdy as this might sound, we’re super excited for some new Instagram material! We’ve been Insta-stalking some of our favorite bloggers and influencers for inspiration, and Hilary Rushford of Dean Street Society is definitely a favorite of ours. Since coming across her account a few months back we’ve been dying to interview her–check out what she has to say about Instagram, living in NYC, and how she empowers women to create lives they love.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog. Musical theatre girl turned stylist seeks to empower women with more authentic confidence in their style, business and life through education plus empathy. Also loves college football, margaritas and West Wing, but that’s starting to tangent.

How long have you been blogging? September will be 4 years.

How long have you lived in New York?  I just passed 11 yearsI think? So long I seriously lose track!

What are your top five most Instagrammable spots in NYC?  I don’t have any spots in particular, I just always try to keep my eyes open. I discover charming new buildings in my neighborhood all the time, but most of my favorite Instagrams are probably when I’m traveling and laying my eyes on new things.

What do you think your Instagram portrays about you? Witty, winsome & wise. {wink} At least I’d like to hope so? I think it’s about an attainable ideal. An aspirational life yet one I’m empowering women to craft for themselves just like I have.

What is one word to describe your Instagram? Authentic.

What’s your best advice for someone trying to brand their Insta in a certain way?  Think about your girl or guy. What do they want to see, why are they following, hitting like, leaving a comment? Focus on the relationship, while staying true to yourself. Creating content that brings you joy and is getting good feedback from your audience is the way to keep it feeling effortless and rewarding.
