What do you love most about working at Bloguettes?
I think some people have a tendency to look at a company run by women in their 20’s as little girls playing dress up and pretending to have ‘big girl’ jobs—but it couldn’t be farther from the truth. The best thing about Bloguettes is the people and the creativity, independence, and confidence we aim to help people achieve. I am honestly so inspired and proud of everyone that works here. Each person has a different strength and if someone lacks a skill, someone else volunteers their strengths until that person has the ability to stand on their own. It’s a creative environment & being in a leadership position has helped me grow in more ways than one!
Name 3 things you need to be successful in your job position.
A sharp wit, confidence in your abilities and in yourself, and the ability to manage time and have a passion for constantly learning more & doing better. (I realize that was 4 things, but, you know…#rebel.)
Finish this sentence: The motto of my life is…
“The shell must break before the bird can fly” –Alfred Tennyson. I’ve heard “you need to break out of your shell” more times than I can count, most of the time from people who think I can’t do something. It sucks, but I think people have a tendency to underestimate those who are quieter. I used to think being introverted was a weakness, but I’ve realized the power of being an introvert and have learned to harness and surprise people with it. ‘Breaking out of my shell’ & facing my fears is one of my favorite things to do because not only can I surprise others, I can surprise myself & grow so incredibly much from it.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I like arts & crafts! Whether it’s decorating notebook covers, making friendship bracelets (is it sad I just learned how to make one a few months ago?), painting, or turning an old piece of clothing from a thrift shop into something modern and edgy, I love it all! That, and avoiding the gym.
How would you describe your personal style?
I feel like I’ve grabbed bits and pieces from every stage/influence in my life and have essentially becomes a style concoction! Style-wise, I’m a little punk, a little hipster, & just a dash of hip hop! 😉
What are your 3 favorite emojis and why?
- The side eye/uhhhh/mean mug face—I don’t really know how to describe this emoji because I use it for so many different feelings. The last time I used it, I was talking to my friend about how I ripped my shorts when I had to quickly grab the fur rug out of this Styling Pictures for Pinterest video.
- The side smirk—I use it when I think I’m being funny. Like a “Heh, see what I did there?”
- The two hands up, ‘throw your diamonds in the sky if you feel the vibe’ emoji—It’s YAASS, hallelujah, you go gurrrrlll, & anything else you want it be!
Where’s your favorite place to take an out-of-town guest?
I love hole-in-the-wall places. I’d probably take them to lunch at The Munchies on Mill Ave and then drive up to Phoenix to get these amazing macaron ice cream sandwiches out of a little Vietnamese restaurant called Pho 43!
Do you have a nickname? What is it & how did you get it?
My friend coined me “Spinelli” from the 90’s cartoon, Recess. She’s feisty, can rock a beanie, a leather jacket, and a dress at the same time, and pretends to be a badass when she’s actually a little softie on the inside. She’s like my spirit animal or something.
Name something on your bucket list.
I actually have an extensive bucket list that I started in 2008. I’ve checked off maybe 70% of the things on my list and keep adding more as I think of them! This is small and may sound trivial, but I’ve always wanted to chop off my hair and go platinum blonde just to see if I can pull it off!
Choose a unique item from your wallet/purse and explain why you carry it around.
I have a few Korean coins in my wallet from when I lived in South Korea last year. Whenever I look for a quarter, I accidentally pull out a Korean coin. I sigh and say, “Ugh, every time!” but on the inside, I smile a little bit knowing I conquered a fear and moved to the other side of the world. And to be honest? I’ll probably never take them out.
