Have you been interested in attending the Two-Day Branding Workshop, but aren’t entirely sure what it entails? We’ve got you covered! We asked one of our students, Stephanie Haisley, to tell us what she thought about the workshop and she happily obliged. See the San Francisco Workshop on February 20-21 in her eyes!
Day One: Discussions
I arrived at Central Kitchen and was totally blown away! From the vaulted ceilings to the huge windows, this space screamed creativity. To top it all off, gorgeous florals from Michelle Lywood were set on each desk, making the entire venue perfect for snapping for Instagram photos. It’s amazing how a simple floral design can brighten up a room and change the mood…See what I mean?
I may or may not have been spending a few too many extra minutes in bed scrolling through my Instagram feed the morning of the workshop (I’m sure you can relate, ha!) – and I totally skipped out on breakfast. But thankfully, Project Juice came to the rescue with candied walnut quinoa oatmeal and their famous Sweet Greens cold pressed juice. After gobbling up breakfast from the gods and mingling with the attendees, the fun began!
If you’re anything like me, then you’re a raving fan of the Bloguettes webinars. You might think you don’t need to take the workshop if you regularly watch the webinars, but let me tell you, there was SO much more for me to learn. Sakura and Lorena covered everything from creating a brand, to developing a voice, to social media strategy.
Because I was kept fresh with water from Waiakea (I am now convinced that I should ONLY be drinking volcanic water), I hadn’t even noticed that a few hours had passed and I had taken over 10 pages of notes!
One of my favorite discussions was about Pinterest. Here’s something I bet you didn’t realize….Pinterest has become a search engine! Think about it, we go on Pinterest to find inspiration…whether that be a recipe, a craft project or a dream kitchen….we are searching! That’s when I realized my business and our clients should be utilizing Pinterest!
After the Pinterest discussion, it was time to eat! I like to think of myself as an adventurous eater, but how in the world have I never had a banh mi sandwich?! After one bite, I was completely and totally hooked. Thanks for the new obsession Bun Mee!
After lunch, we took a walk around the block, grabbed some coffee, got to know one another, and took our class photo. Look how cute we are!
With a caffeine boost and a sugar rush from Kara’s Cupcakes and all her ADORABLE mini cupcakes and kettle corn, it was time to jump back in. We talked about websites, knowing when to hire a developer, and how to land that brand partnership of your dreams. Before I knew it, Day One was officially over! We covered SO much and even though I loved every piece of knowledge, a few things definitely stuck out to me.
My Top 4 Takeaways:
Think of your brand as person! How would this person look? How would they talk? Who do they hang out with? Though it might sound silly at first, it couldn’t be truer. When you know “who” your brand is, everything else falls into place!
Social media takes time. If you put in the effort to brand your account, keep a consistent message and engage with your followers – you will see the payoff!
You are your brand’s #1 fan! Believe in yourself and let your passion fuel you. You will always be the best at selling yourself and your products and services, so take advantage of that!
You don’t need a million bucks to be successful. The workshop set us up to be our own social media strategists, analysts, graphic designers, and bosses. Don’t be afraid to utilize your network and tap into your own talent!
After I got back to my hotel, I took out all the contents of the Bloguettes goody bag and felt like an A-list star! No lie, I felt like I had just left a party with the swag bag of the century!
Here's what was inside:
The bag itself! An adorable brown tote with a contrasting neon green liner from Street Travel Bags
Good Juju Spray from Apothecary Company (this has become a staple in my purse – I can’t go a day without some good juju)
A delicate gold necklace from Olive + Piper
Glistening earrings from Kendra Scott
The Volcano Candle from Faithful Scents (Watch out Anthro, this candle might have you beat!)
The always tasty Zico Coconut Water
Adorable thank you cards from Forage Paper Co.
A super hydrating hair mask from Oh Hello Hair!
And of course, the Bloguettes swag (t-shirt, notepad, pen, drink tumbler)
I was so excited after the first day that I began implementing the lessons right away! Something that really clicked with me was Trello. For those of you who don’t know what Trello is, think of it like an organizational storyboard. (I told my company about Trello and can proudly say that immediately after the workshop, we started using Trello to plan out our clients’ social media posts and it has been a life changer! Not only has it simplified our communications, but it ultimately helped us increase our followers and creative a cohesive message from post to post.)
Day Two: Photoshop
For being a girl with zero Photoshop experience, I was amazed at how much I learned in such a small amount of time. Sakura and Lorena adapted their teaching style to each student and offered one-on-one help when needed.
After just two short days, I can confidently say that I am an entry-level Photoshop wizard. But really, that’s all I need! I can make a great graphic that fits with my Instagram grid, I can remove ugly trashcans (or any other unwanted item) from the background of photos, and I learned how to use the Wacom Tablet to create Pinterest-worthy hand lettering.
One thing I loved about the workshop was the student diversity. Being at the workshop reminded me what it was like to be back in college. I was in a room full of peers wanting to learn…fellow marketing gals, fashion and lifestyle bloggers, nutritionists, small business owners – you name it, they were there! How cool is it that we can all come together under one roof and share our own tips and tricks while learning from each other?!
Being around all those creative, like-minded individuals was just what I needed. Not only did I leave with an expanded knowledge base – I left with some new BFF’s and the motivation to take my social media game to the next level!
I can’t wait for the next opportunity to attend another Bloguettes training! Thanks again Bloguettes!
