When To Start A YouTube Channel

Share

There comes a point in every blogger or small business’ life when starting a YouTube channel needs to be considered. For some, launching a YouTube channel comes hand-in-hand with starting a website. For others, a YouTube channel comes a little later in the game.

But how do you know when it is right for you to launch a YouTube channel? Use this checklist to make sure you’re ready to launch your channel!

Time + Resources

If you’re a one-man-band kind of gig, it can be quite a commitment to dedicate your time to YouTube. From brainstorming to actually posting a video, the whole process can take several days. Editing is also a chore in itself, so invest in learning how to edit videos quickly & efficiently before you decide to start! Trust us, this will save you TONS of time in the future.

Steady Flow Of Content

Another thing to consider when starting a channel is how often you want to upload content. If you’re just starting out, shoot for one video every two weeks. Once you know that you’ll be able to shoot, edit, and upload videos consistently, your YouTube channel should be good to go. A steady flow of content is key to growing subscribers later on, so make sure you have great content lined up! Before you launch your channel, have 5 videos edited and published so your channel looks full, in addition to three more scheduled to go live throughout the next few weeks.

Does Your Content Make Sense?

Before starting your channel, make a list of video ideas. If it’s hard for you to come up with more than five ideas off the top of your head, you might need to take a step back. When you know the niche you are trying to reach, you should be able to easily think of video topics they will find appealing that you can create.

Go A Little Deeper

Now that you’ve got your brain flowing with ideas, it’s always good to have a strategy or game plan before starting launching. Take sometime to ask yourself these questions before you embark on YouTube:

  1. 1

Why do you want to start a YouTube channel?

  2. 2

Is there already people making videos in your niche? How will you be different?

  3. 3

How will you market your videos?

  4. 4

How will you measure your success? Views? Subscribers? Number of videos?
