You know that blue checkmark next to celebrities’ names on Instagram that let you know they are who they say they are and not some random internet troll? Well, you can–and should–have a checkmark next to your name on Facebook as well.

By getting your small business Facebook verified, you will instantly let anyone who stumbles upon your page know they can trust you. The same way that being “Facebook official” helped clarify the status of your last relationship, being Facebook verified can help legitimize your small business.

Why Should You Verify?

There are currently over 45 million businesses on Facebook. A grey checkmark by your company’s name garners a second look from someone viewing your page and it ensures people they have found the authentic account.

Today’s buyers and potential clients vet a business they are interested in hiring or purchasing from online. The same way that a restaurant’s Yelp page reviews can make you instantly reserve a table or never think about eating there again, your Facebook page should be as inviting as possible. Going through the process of getting verified helps boost your credibility while instilling an instant sense of trust with anyone viewing your page. Another perk is that verifying your page will rank your business towards the top of Facebook’s search results, making your business easier to find.

The Process

  1. 1

Click settings at the top of your page

  2. 2

    From general, click page verification

  3. 3

Click verify this page, then click “Get Started”

  4. 4

Enter a publicly listed phone number for your business, your country and language

  5. 5

Click “Call Me Now” to allow Facebook to call you with a verification code

  6. 6

Enter the four-digit verification code and click continue

After you have verified your page, you will also gain access to Facebook’s “Shops and Services” tool as it continues to roll out. Though the storefront feature itself is not yet available to all users, they have created other call-to-action buttons you can readily use. Buttons such as “Sign Up Now” displayed at the top of your page along side “like” giving you ample expose to acquire new subscribers.
